Checkout Supervisors - 2 Positions Available

Permanent, Full-Time

Minimum 40 guaranteed hours per week

$25.00 - $27.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

We’re looking for two experienced Checkout Supervisors to join our team at New World Hokitika.

These are key leadership roles within our checkout team. You’ll help lead our front-end operation, support our team and make sure we continue to provide a high level of service to our customers every day.

About the Role

As a Checkout Supervisor, you’ll take a hands-on leadership role on the checkout floor, supporting our Checkout Manager and wider team while helping ensure the department runs smoothly.

You’ll need to be confident leading people, making decisions and stepping in when required. You’ll also play an important role in maintaining our standards around customer service, cash handling, age-restricted sales and checkout compliance.

These positions include weekend work, so applicants must be available to work weekends as part of their regular roster.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervising and coordinating the checkout team
• Providing excellent customer service and handling customer queries and complaints
• Coordinating checkout coverage, team breaks and daily tasks
• Supporting the day-to-day running of the checkout department
• Training, coaching and supporting team members
• Ensuring procedures around cash handling and age-restricted sales are followed
• Monitoring checkout standards, productivity and customer service
• Assisting with opening and closing responsibilities
• Ensuring store safety, security and compliance procedures are followed
• Acting as a certified manager for the store once qualified and appointed

What We’re Looking For

Applicants must have at least 12 months of relevant retail supervisory experience and be confident supervising and coordinating a team in a busy customer-facing environment.

Ideally, you’ll already hold a current Manager’s Certificate and LCQ.

We will also consider experienced applicants who don't currently hold these qualifications, provided you already have relevant experience working in licensed premises and are in a position to progress towards obtaining a Manager’s Certificate.

For the right person, we’re happy to support you through obtaining your LCQ and Manager’s Certificate.

You’ll also need:

• Previous supervisory or leadership experience
• Experience working in a licensed retail or hospitality environment
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Confidence leading and supporting a team
• Experience dealing with customer issues and making decisions
• Good judgement and the ability to remain calm under pressure
• A reliable and positive approach to work
• Availability to work weekends and other rostered shifts

Previous supermarket and checkout experience would be an advantage.
