About the role:

The Freight Network Manager role within TSI, the Foodstuffs South Island transport division is a pivotal leadership role responsible for designing, optimising and continuously improving our end to end freight network.

 

You’ll own the Primary and Secondary freight strategy, ensuring we deliver safe, reliable and cost effective transport services while meeting and exceeding our member stores and customer expectations.  

 

You’ll balance service, risk, cost and sustainability, shaping how our network operates today and into the future. From network design and carrier performance to financial oversight and team leadership, this role combines strategy with hands on operational influence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Design and continuously optimise the end to end freight network, including linehaul planning, schedules, fleet allocation and consolidation strategies
  • Balance service, cost , risk and sustainability when shaping network decisions
  • Own and regularly review the freight network blueprint, ensuring it remains fit for purpose
  • Define standards and track performance through clear, meaningful KPI’s
  • Monitor live network performance and support operational exception management and escalations

 

About you:

You’ll be a strategic thinker who understands how to turn network complexity into practical, high performing solutions. You bring deep transport or logistics experience and know how to balance commercial outcomes with excellence and safety. Ideally you’ll also have:

 

  • Extensive experience in transport or logistics or network operations,
  • A strong track record of designing and improving freight or distribution networks.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans that deliver measurable results.
  • Confidence working with TMS, BI and analytics to drive insight-led decisions.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience negotiating rates and managing carrier performance.
