Strategy Lead
About the role:
As our Strategy Lead, you’ll help shape the strategic direction of our co-op and enable commercially grounded decision-making across Foodstuffs South Island. You’ll bring structure to complexity and turn analysis into clear, compelling recommendations - crafting strategic narratives that influence decisions and drive impact.
Reporting to our Head of Strategy, you’ll work across both enterprise and business unit levels, collaborating with senior leaders to identify and analyse opportunities, develop strategy, and quantify risks and benefits.
This is an opportunity to influence the future of a cooperative with deep community roots – guiding high-impact decisions and helping embed strategic clarity across our co-op.
Some of what you’ll do:
- Collaborate with senior leaders to shape strategy and assess commercial and operational opportunities.
- Analyse performance across business units to identify growth opportunities, profitability gaps, and emerging trends.
- Translate qualitative and quantitative insights into clear, actionable strategic recommendations.
- Present strategic options and evaluate their viability across customer, commercial, operational, and organisational dimensions.
- Track progress and reflect external market shifts (consumer behaviour, industry trends and macro-economic changes etc.) into our strategic conversations.
About you:
You’ll bring the commercial depth to conduct robust analysis, and the curiosity to connect the dots between data, stakeholder input, and market trends. You’ll thrive on collaboration, and be quick to build strong partnerships across our co-op.
Ideally, you’ll also bring:
- A relevant qualification in economics, finance, or a related field.
- Strong commercial analysis capability, including financial modelling, valuation, and performance assessment.
- Experience in consulting or corporate strategy, ideally within large, complex organisations.
- Strong strategic storytelling – able to simplify complexity, shape, design and present clear strategic recommendations.
- Confidence engaging with senior leaders and building trust across diverse teams.
Don't meet every requirement or think this role might be a step across instead of up? We encourage you to apply anyway. We are looking for individuals with diverse experiences and are keen to hear from those who believe they have the drive and potential to succeed with us.
Why join us?
