About the role:

As a Seafood Buyer you’ll manage the operational procurement of seafood articles supplied through our Christchurch wholesale operations and direct supply model. Working closely with suppliers, internal teams and our stores, you’ll ensure seafood products are sourced within specification, delivered consistently and aligned with member needs.

You’ll also contribute to the ongoing development of the seafood category identifying new supplier opportunities, supporting new product introductions and ensuring our procurement approach continues to evolve to meet the needs of the business.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the procurement of seafood products to ensure consistent supply to members across wholesale and direct supply channels
  • Working closely with the Merchandise Manager Meat & Seafood to identify strategic buying opportunities and optimise supply channels.
  • Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships while identifying opportunities for new vendor partnerships
  • Supporting the introduction of new products and ensuring efficient distribution to market
  • Monitoring seafood procurement processes and reporting to support continuous improvement

About you:

You’ll be commercially minded, highly organised and comfortable working in a fast – paced procurement environment. You enjoy building strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, and you take a proactive approach to ensuring supply and product performance remain strong. Ideally, you’ll also have:

 

  • A background in or strong understanding of the New Zealand  seafood industry
  • Experience in FMCG, procurement or retail environments
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with suppliers and internal teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Confidence working with data and systems, including strong Microsoft Office capability
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple priorities
