Merchandise Manager (Promotions)
About the role:
As the Merchandise Manager (Promotions), you’ll lead strategic improvements across campaigns, promotions and trading business systems, with a strong focus on process improvement, increasing the effectiveness of promotions and maximising supplier trade investment.
This is a 12 month fixed‑term role covering parental leave.
You’ll work closely with internal Merchandise, Marketing & Retail teams to simplify process, strengthen commercial outcomes and ensure our promotional programmes deliver value for our members and customers.
This is a role for someone who thrives on combining insight, relationships and disciplined delivery to influence strategy and convert opportunity into measurable results.
Key Responsibilities :
- Designing, implementing and embedding improvements to promotional and trade activity in partnership with the Head of Strategy & Operations.
- Providing clear leadership and direction to the promotions and trade team, ensuring priorities are set and initiatives are delivered at pace.
- Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of promotional activity, measured through sales, profit and customer loyalty outcomes.
- Building strong, collaborative relationships with Foodstuffs South Island (FSSI) teams to support simplified decision-making and joint promotional success.
- Leading co-op and promotions simplification initiatives through to completion.
About you:
You’ll be a commercially sharp thinker, highly collaborative and confident working at pace in a complex environment. You know how to balance relationships with results and you bring both strategic thinking and hands-on delivery to your work. Ideally you’ll also have:
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to turn data into clear insights and actions
- Excellent stakeholder relationship skills, with the ability to build trust across internal teams.
- Exceptional leadership capability leading a dynamic and agile team.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a structured approach to delivering projects and initiatives.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
