Head of Merchandise - Commercial

Foodstuffs South Island Limited is a major wholesaling and retailing cooperative providing a high level of service to our members - PAK’nSAVE, New World, Four Square, Henry’s, Raeward Fresh, On the Spot and Trents customers. 


As a result of changes within our Merchandise division, accompanied with a full end to end review of our DC operating model, a new senior role has become available within this division - Head of Merchandise - Commercial.


A key part of this role will be to lead supplier negotiations in respect to warehouse trading terms.


Other critical functions will include the continuation and growth of our Vendor Stock Holding facility (3PL) and manage other key logistical efficiency services such as Cross Dock. 


Another key component of this role is in the management of the procurement of non-trade items, associated with the cooperative and its members, by way of working through a Request For Proposal (RFP) programme.


This is an exciting role that will require the ability to work with a large and diverse number of supplier partners, as well as playing an integral part within our Commercial and Merchandise teams.


Ideally, you will have a high level of experience within commercial negotiations, extensive knowledge and experience within the FMCG industry, and demonstrate the ability to solve complex problems. 


This is a key relationship role and requires the right candidate to take a high level of professionalism across many levels within our organisation and with our external supplier partners.  Therefore, it is critical you have a sound commercial acumen and an adaptable communication style.


Some of the key skills and competencies we are looking for: 
•    University qualification or equivalent experience 
•    Experience with an FMCG company
•    Negotiation qualification or proven experience
•    Financial knowledge and experience with a high level of commercial acumen
•    Ability to build and maintain strong business relationships with a variety of stakeholders
•    Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems 
•    Highly developed skills in communication and presentation, both written and oral
•    Demonstrated ability to achieve results
