About the role:
As our Enterprise Food Safety Manager, you’ll lead the governance and assurance of Foodstuffs South Island’s food safety, quality, and compliance systems. You’ll set the enterprise approach, ensure alignment to our strategic priorities and risk appetite, and provide clear oversight across retail, manufacturing, and supply chain. You’ll be our senior authority on food safety and the primary point of engagement with MPI and other regulators, ensuring regulatory requirements are well understood, well managed, and reflected in how we operate.
Key accountabilities:
- Lead the annual enterprise food safety strategic work programme
- Oversee regulatory audits, verifications, notifiable events, and responses to MPI investigations or enforcement actions
- Provide governance and assurance oversight of enterprise food safety, quality, and compliance frameworks
- Contribute to, and present at, executive and Board‑level governance forums
- Lead, coach, and develop a capable, high‑performing team, supporting growth, judgement, and strong cross‑functional partnerships
About you:
You’ll be a strategic leader with experience across food safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, or a similar field from within large‑scale food, retail, FMCG, or supply chain environments. You’ll bring sound judgement, operate comfortably at enterprise level, and build trust across the cooperative.
Ideally, you’ll also bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification and HACCP and/or recognised food safety auditing qualifications
- Experience engaging with MPI and managing audits, verifications, investigations, and notifiable events
- Experience leading enterprise or multi‑site food safety systems (manufacturing, retail or supply chain strongly preferred)
- A proven people leadership track record and strong cross‑functional relationships
