Checkout Operator

New World Stanmore is a great community supermarket in the heart of Christchurch. We have had a role (or roles) come available as a Checkout Operator in our store.

Could suit a uni student?

Days and hours are: 

• Wednesday 2.30pm to 8pm
• Thursday 4pm-8pm
• Saturday 12.30pm to 9pm
• Sunday 12.30pm-7.30pm

This role could be one person, or it could be two people with each doing one of the weekday shifts and one of the weekend shifts.

We ideally want someone that has good decision-making skills who could be trained to be a Liquor Duty Manager (must be 20 years or older for this part).

The role will involve the following:

• Customer service – scanning and packing groceries
• Authorising alcohol/tobacco purchases
• Problem solving
• Watching self scans and helping customers
• Lotto sales
• Stocking shelves/facing up; helping the Grocery team when Checkout is quiet
• Cleaning of checkout areas

The person we are looking for will have the following attributes:

• Hold a valid liquor Duty Manager Certificate, or be willing to get one
• Have a passion for giving excellent customer service and going the extra mile for our customers
• Be able to work well in a team, but also be able to complete tasks unassisted in the required timeframe
• Must be able to show initiative and be honest and reliable
• Must have a positive approach to their day and have a ‘can-do’ attitude
• You must also be physically fit as it involves being on your feet all day.
